Interns are not your servants

Interns enter many teams during the summer months. If this is the case of your team, try to think more about how to improve both your and the interns' experience this year. And start with a plan. Don't look for excuses, you simply need a plan. Write down why you need the interns, what they should achieve during their internship and what methods of work will help them. Then, follow these rules:

Assign relevant tasks to the interns

The main job of the interns should not be copying papers and making coffee. Try to involve them in the work on real projects so that they can get valuable experience.

Don't force interns to be your personal servants

Don't send them to shop for your daily personal needs or gifts for your loved ones. Don't ask them to organize the contents of your private activities.

Offer learning opportunities

You can, for example, assign mentors to your interns to help them orientate themselves in your company and industry. You should, however, always assign specific tasks with specific objectives.

Let them feel that they are a part of the company

Invite interns to corporate and team social events to make them feel that they belong to you. Be careful to not treat them roughly. Respect them as you respect any other employee.
