You have probably told yourself many times that you would need several hours more a day. You do not have enough time not only because of your obligations but also due to a variety of interesting opportunities that arise unexpectedly. However, even if you cannot extend the day, you can work with the way you perceive your time and expand your perception of time. The Psych Central website brought four practical tips.
1. Change your way of measuring time
Move from quantitative to qualitative measurement of time. Do not measure primarily just how long something takes you, measure how much you learned, how much fun you enjoyed, how much rest you had, how much you devoted to something you like, how well you feel, etc.
2. Follow the circumstances affecting your perception of time
When you enjoy something, time passes quickly. If you do not enjoy something, your time crawls. Therefore, your perception of time is relative. Make a list of specific circumstances under which your time passes quickly and slowly.
3. Adjust the speed of your perception of time
If you want to slow down your time, concentrate on only one thing and limit all distractions. Look at the time positively. Do not say, for example, that you have only two hours when you have 120 minutes or 7,200 seconds. If you want your time to run faster, think about unpleasant matters ahead of you only as a small part of the year. Try to engage in anything that you enjoy.
4. Expand your perception of time
Do not follow only the length but also the width of your time. Involve all your senses and look for ways gain as much as possible from your experience.
