Be consistent
Treat your subordinates in a friendly manner but require they fulfill their responsibilities. If necessary, ask them to work overtime. Solve performance problems as soon as possible and do not ignore them.
Document all requirements carefully
Set up a single place where you can track and save all documentation and detailed requirements for the further development of your project. Archive all documents clearly so that even a new person, who comes from the outside, is able to find what he needs.
Communicate properly and frequently
As already mentioned above, do not underestimate the importance of repeating important details. Never give your client unverified information. Deal with bad news in a timely manner.
Trust but verify
Ensure compliance with deadlines and budget. Check everything you give to your client well in advance - even the little things like spelling.
Update your financial estimates weekly
It will help discover any discrepancies between your forecast expectations and actuality more easily. Then you will be able to talk to your client before the original estimates are too far from reality.
Search for balanced feedback
If you have not hear from your client for a long time, problems are very likely to develop. You should communicate regularly.
Communicate with other project managers
If you think that nobody else ever has experienced some of the same problems when implementing a project as you, you're wrong. Most issues are not unique so do not worry about asking your colleagues.
