Only using Skype, people make phone calls lasting 300 billion minutes per year, half of which are video calls. Companies now routinely use video conferencing and technical equipment for video communication over the Internet is rapidly improving. Therefore, it is striking how slowly we learn to look good - and primarily professionally - in the videos.
Professional video communication requires quality equipment - microphone, camera and internet connection. Then it is necessary to be able to work with the surrounding environment and our own appearance. Fastcompany.com brought three practical tips.
1. Look up, not down
Remember that when you look into the webcam from the top down, people on the other side will see the bags under your eyes and even worse - your nose hair. The camera should be placed on the eye level, even if it meant to underlay your notebook using several thick books.
2. Do not sit with the light behind you
If you are in a room with a window, sit down with your face toward the window. The same applies to the location of the lamp on your table. With a window or other source of light behind you, your face will be in the dark.
3. Get an external camera
External webcams are still better than the built-in cameras. Compared to the previous years, however, they are considerably cheaper. Your image will be sharper, so ladies should consider makeup as for any other professional meeting.
