In most companies, 80% of total output is produced by only 20% of employees. And although managers claim that they would like to spend more time with with their best people to provide more support, they don't do it. In fact, they spend 80% of their working time by helping people overcome obstacles.
So how can you truly support your best employees?
- Every week dedicate a certain number of hours to spend with the best employees. The more time they will be individually addressed, the greater the chance that they won't fall of their bench.
- Treat them as true partners, and together create a quarterly plan. Define not only goals, but also specific steps to achieve them. If they perceive that you are on their side, they will try hard to earn your respect.
- Arrange follow-up dates to assess compliance with the plan and to adjust goals. Always respond appropriately to their results to demonstrate to them that you are truly interested in their situation.
