Busy period at work? How to survive it physically and mentally

A large number of professions occasionally have a period when more time must be spent at work. This is a stressful period when more than usual needs to be done and it generally leads to a great deal of pressure on both mind and body. Some business sectors and work positions deal with such periods in a planned and natural manner (e.g. event management); at some workplaces the periods are seasonal (e.g. before the end of the year), while at others they are completely random. Here are some principles which will enable you to emerge from these periods safe and sound.

Do not work all through the week

According to The Balance, you can go through a busy period at work without any problems but you should avoid working every single day of a week, seven days in a row, including a weekend. After six days in a row, try to have at least one day off.

Exercise

Physical activity should be part of the routine for all of us. During chaotic work periods we tend to skip exercise. But it should be the other way around. Do not skip exercise: paradoxically it will boost your energy.

Drink enough water

People seldom forget to eat but they do forget to consume enough liquids. Drink a sufficient amount of water to avoid dehydration, which, by the way, also causes fatigue.

Do not consume too much caffeine

There is a natural tendency during busy periods at work to drink litres of coffee. But try to avoid this habit. You will not be able to sleep properly at night, and in the long run excessive consumption of caffeine will probably cause you to lose energy.

Eat quality food

Eat regularly and include snacks in your daily food regime as well. But eat good-quality meals and avoid junk food and low quality foods full of sugar and fats.
