Every morning, give yourself at least 60 seconds of peace and quiet. You can read a poem or say a prayer, reflect on your life. Let your mind rest: you would not believe how much more energised you will be.
2. Keep smiling
When you smile, you kind of order your brain to feel happier. Why? Because the relationship between outward manifestation of emotions and the inner processes linked to them is mutual. Your smile will also make other people smile in response. It is simply contagious.
3. Enjoy your successes
When you have successfully completed a project or a task, take a second and enjoy the sense of accomplishment. With occasional rewards of this type you are less likely to feel overwhelmed. And when you learn something new (which is the case almost every day) and potentially important, recognise it and celebrate it with a quiet “I’ve done it, perfect!”.
4. Don’t be irritated by weird behaviour
Behaving oddly from time to time is part of human nature. Don’t be irritated by others' minor foibles; instead, be amused. Maintain a positive attitude.
5. Say thanks when the recipients don’t expect it
Sure, you know how to thank team members and customers. But all the janitors, shop assistants and call centre workers also deserve to hear “thank you”. Their jobs are not easy and their efforts not often appreciated.
